DESCRIPTION:The Environmental Voter Project estimates that over 13 million already-registered voters who care deeply about the environment are currently unlikely to vote in the 2022 midterm elections. But we need them to vote now\, more than ever. \nClimate resilience and preparedness\, land use (or smart growth)\, preservation\, local agriculture\, and green jobs are some of the environmental issues that are at stake in our competitive\, local races. Important decisions made locally can shape a neighborhood\, city or county for generations. Every vote counts! \nEnvision Frederick County needs you to help Get Out The Vote. \nCome to our free nonpartisan Essentials training on October 1 to find out: \n\nwhat races are taking place\,\nwhat the key environmental issues are\,\nhow to find out information on candidates and their past voting records\,\nand how to get voters to the polls.\n\nResearch demonstrates that personal contact is the most effective tool that turns out voters. We will learn how to organize a canvassing operation to urge citizens to get out to the polls. \nLearn how we plan to make voting easier and share what’s at stake with other Frederick County environmental voters. Those engaged by nonprofits are 11% MORE likely to vote than those NOT contacted\, reports Nonprofit Vote. Please join us! \nOur speakers: Dr. Kerri Hesley\, on behalf of the Sierra Club\, will discuss the importance of voting to be sure important local\, state\, and federal environmental legislation passes. Mary Beth Coker\, M.S.\, of League of Women Voters\, will detail efforts and resources available to voters through the LWV. Diane Fink\, executive director of Emerge Maryland\, will discuss how to talk about voting and will train attendees to canvass potential voters to urge them to the polls.
