A mid-month County Council update from Jessica Fitzwater

EDITOR’S NOTE: Frederick County Council member Jessica Fitzwater regularly publishes an excellent newsletter, with good information about upcoming council agenda items, events and more. We thought we’d share one here, and encourage folks to sign up to receive these via email.

I enjoyed spending the afternoon with local farmers at the Farm Bureau Legislative Day on February 11th. We discussed ag preservation, solar farms, ag education, soil conservation, and much more. Pictured here with Tom Mullinex, Chair of the Agricultural Business Council.

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

I’m sure you have seen coverage of or even attended one of the many marches and rallies that have taken place in Frederick over the last few weeks. Many of our community members are becoming engaged and active for the first time. Are you looking for a tangible way to get involved and make a difference? Consider applying for one of the many openings on our County Boards and Commissions! Read about these exciting opportunities here– letters of interest and resumes are due by this Friday, February 24th. Let me know if I can be of assistance!

Tonight at 7:00 p.m. the Council will hold a public hearing on the Urbana Rezoning Application. Last week the Council passed Rezoning Hearing Procedures that will guide our process during tonight’s hearing and future rezoning hearings. Learn more about the rezoning application here. We have already received many emailed comments concerning this application. Please email your comments to JFitzwater@FrederickCountyMD.gov if you cannot attend.

You may have noticed that Council Member Keegan-Ayer’s Bill concerning Solar Collection Systems has been pulled from Third Reader on the agenda today. We are still working on amendments to this bill based on feedback from community members, farmers, and the solar industry. Thank you to everyone who has gotten in touch with us on this important bill! It will be back on the agenda soon.

Tonight’s regularly-scheduled 4:30 p.m. County Council meeting agenda includes:

If you have comments on any of these items or on any other issue, please email me at jfitzwater@frederickcountymd.gov. I look forward to hearing from you!
