Speak up for the Monocacy River! (Wednesday, Oct. 18th)

Frederick County friends:

Please show up, and speak up, for the Monocacy River on Wednesday evening (October 18th) at Winchester Hall! This is an important hearing before Frederick County’s Planning Commission. Come and voice your support for adoption of the updated Monocacy River Management Plan.

The Monocacy River is the source of more than a quarter of Frederick City’s drinking water. Unfortunately, the river is polluted by runoff and erosion. Water quality is poor. The Monocacy River Management Plan includes common sense recommendations to better protect this critical drinking water resource, such as:

• Preventing development on steep slopes next to the river that would cause polluted runoff

• Encouraging tree and native plant buffers along the river

• Providing assistance to landowners who voluntarily adopt stormwater management practices

Please join us for the Frederick County Planning Commission’s public hearing on Wednesday, October 18 at 7:00 PM.
