The following is a press release from the Sugarloaf Alliance regarding the important public hearing of the Board of Zoning Appeals, this Thursday afternoon (August 28th at 1:00PM) at Winchester Hall.

A proposed commercial shooting range at the foot of Sugarloaf Mountain would destroy the tranquility necessary for people to enjoy hiking, riding and holding wedding and other events on the mountain. The proposed facility is located in a Resource Conservation Zone with equestrian farms, golf courses and other business requiring a peaceful setting in the immediate area.

A hearing on this matter is scheduled for Thursday, August 28th at 1 PM with a break for dinner about 5:30 and to resume at 7 PM. The Hearing will be held at Winchester Hall, 12 East Church Street, Frederick, MD.

At the first Hearing on July 24th citizens poured out filing the two main rooms in Winchester Hall and spilling out of the packed hallway to fill the courtyard and the sidewalks. The Hearing was postponed at the Applicant’s request.

Citizens from throughout Frederick and Montgomery County have written letters to the Board of Zoning Appeals and Newspapers in support.

Sugarloaf Alliance especially wants to thank the overwhelming support of those running for office this fall for their support. Two-Thirds of the candidates have expressed their opposition to the shooting range, with the majority writing letters to either or both the Board of Zoning Appeals and to newspapers.
