Welcome to the Farm Frederick blog. I’d like to dedicate it to some of the people and organizations that are helping to make this possible. The plot of land that our farm will sit on in downtown Frederick is being provided to us by the good people at the Housing Authority of the City of Frederick. Kevin Lollar and his team there are partnering with us in an effort to reach out to the neighboring community and throughout Frederick. The roughly 1/4 acre plot will be our flagship site. Right now it’s just an empty field, but before long it will be transformed into the beginning stages of a working downtown farm. I am grateful that organizations like the Housing Authority exist. Through their outreach, I’m being given an opportunity to pursue something I’m very passionate about and have been dreaming of doing for a long time. I can’t say thank you enough.
I’d also like to thank Envision Frederick County for offering a home to this blog. This gives us the opportunity to get our message out to far more people than we would otherwise reach. Thanks to Kai and Envision Frederick County!
Thank you to everyone who has reached out to me so far about this project. I’ve heard from a lot of people who want to help. A project like this can’t succeed without the involvement of many good people! Let’s keep the energy up as we head into this year.
I’ll post about volunteer opportunities as they come up. Perhaps you can lend a hand in the development of this farm. Finally, I hope you’ll visit this blog as I document our progress, and share some of my growing techniques and projects in my backyard garden this season. Here’s to a great 2014!
